turkey + coffee

sometimes having a snack conflicts with drinking coffee. for example, i wanted a grapefruit just now and rejected that as a snack idea because of the coffee conflict. grapefruits just don’t go with a cup of coffee. many things go with coffee. cheese, bread, peanuts. those are not foods i care to eat at the moment. three slices of turkey were available to me, and that’s what i ate. it was risky, but here is a guiding story i often think of when the combining of turkey and coffee is called into question.

it happens in an episode of abbot & costello.

lou (the thin, mean one, i think) is at a diner. a lunch counter. a luncheonette. something like this. he orders a turkey sandwich and a cup of coffee. there is something timeless and romantic about that scene, and there is something perfect about a turkey sandwich and a cup of coffee. so, for me, turkey and coffee coexist nicely as snacks.
